Jesus had lived
all his life in the biblical land of Israel - His parents
lived in Nazareth - The Angel Gabriel appeared to Maria
and told her that she will conceive a child to the Holy
Spirit and deliver the son of God. He was born in a Beth-Lehem
cave, known today as the church of the nativity.
Jesus was raised and lived in Nazareth. He used to preach
to the locals about morality and the commitment to follow
the ways of God. He lived all his life in the Holy Land
of Israel where he preformed many miraculous deeds - He
walked on the water of the Sea of Galilee, healed hopelessly
ill patients, turned water to wine, fed thousands of people
with only seven loaves of bread and some fish.
By tradition, the Last Supper took place on Mount Zion.
That was one of the major events relating to the life of
Jesus and a fundamental event in Christianity, the inspiration
to Christian ceremonies and theological ideas. The event
is known as the "The last supper" as it was the last time
where Jesus dined with his Apostles before he was handed
over to the Romans who crucified him.
The Via Dolorosa
(Latin for "Way of Grief" or "Way of Suffering"), a street
in the Old City of Jerusalem, was the path that Jesus walked
on the way to his crucifixion. The path is marked by nine
of the fourteen Stations of the Cross. The last five stations
are inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
The Church of the
Holy Sepulchre (called the Church of the Resurrection by
Eastern Christians) is considered by most Christians as
Golgotha, the Hill of Calvary, where the New Testament tells
us that Jesus was crucified. It is also said to contain
the place where Jesus was buried (the sepulchre). The church
has been an important destination for pilgrims since the
4th century and today serves as the headquarters of the
Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Catholic Archpriest
of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre.
